“The Hong Kong Basics” is an exhibition displaying a collection of everyday objects from the city. The collection is presented as a portrait of the life experienced by the residents. A mix between deep rooted religion traditions, imposed colonial
influences and new technologies.


As part of their artistic residence at Hong Kong, Tobias Brunner, Juliette Collin, Helene Portier and Sara Regal Alonso have collected a serie of objects showcasing the everyday life.
The collection includes objects such as a market lamps, ritual paper clothes and cleaning bowls. They have been collected in various places around the city, from the local Dai Pa Dong to the sacred temples. The collection is presented as a portrait of the everyday Hong Kong life experienced by the residents. A mix between deep rooted religion traditions, imposed colonial
influences and new technologies.
Display
The collection is curated as a family, with one common material present in all the pieces, plastic. The display takes place directly on the wall, delivering a global overview. The objects
are out of their original context, enlighten their aesthetic and materiality.
Signage
The signage, printed directly on the wall, is in Chinese and English. The objects are explained inside of an index structure, stating the name, dimensions and material of each piece.
